Badung, 3 September 2024 – The Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) 2024 held in Bali from 1—3  September 2024, successfully strengthened economic ties between Indonesia and African countries. This forum served as a strategic platform for State-Owned Enterprises (SOE), national companies, private companies, as well as Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to establish mutually beneficial cooperation with partners from Africa.

This was stated by Director for Africa at the Directorate General of Asia-Pacific and Africa Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Dewi Justicia Meidiwaty, on Tuesday, 3 September in Nusa Dua, Bali.

A total of 40 Indonesian companies contributed in active participations at the forum, demonstrating Indonesia’s strong commitment in various strategic sectors such as energy, health, agriculture, technology, and banking. “The IAF 2024 is expected to drive economic growth and strengthen Indonesia’s position on the international stage through the various agreements signed,” said Dewi.

A number of Indonesia’s SOEs demonstrated strong commitment at the IAF 2024, including State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina (Persero) that will focus on the development of the energy sector, including gas and geothermal. In addition, state-owned holding company for the defense industry Defend ID will develop the strategic and defense industries, and state-owned weapons manufacturer PT Pindad (Persero) is to establish collaboration in the strategic industry sector.

Furthermore, PT Biofarma (Persero) is to embark in cooperation in the health sector and technology transfer, PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (PTPN III) in the agriculture sector, and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) Tbk in gas infrastructure development.

In addition to the SOEs, several national and private companies also engaged in exploring cooperation, including PT Kalbe Farma Tbk for the export of health products to Africa. PT Triton for the procurement of syringes in South Africa. Also, there is PT Pertiwi Agung (Mensa Group) related to the purchase of instant energy drinks in Namibia, PT Energi Mega Persada (EMP) and Oxytane in the energy sector, and JOBS in recruitment and human resource development in the energy sector.

Moreover, there is Asindo Tech that explored cooperation related to the development of the cassava processing industry, CV KHS (Quick) for the production and export of agricultural equipment, Audie Building related to infrastructure development, PT Sari Teknologi Global in developing industrial technology and smart robots (ROPI), Tirta Ayu for wellness and herbal products, PT Victoria Care Indonesia for body care and health products, and Saputra Global Harvest for converting coal into fertilizer using US technology.

Next, there is Sampoerna Agro exploring cooperation in the plantation sector, PT Dami Sariwana for the production of food and consumer goods, PT Solusi Tani Makmur for the export of organic fertilizer, and Indesso Aroma for the production of aromas and industrial raw materials. Not to be left out, the banking sector involves PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk and PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.

Meanwhile, MSMEs participating in the IAF 2024 cover sectors such as furniture, fashion, processed food, and crafts. Some MSMEs fostered by Bank Indonesia, BNI, Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and HIPMI Womenpreneur, collaborating with African countries include INTMO, PT Mata Air Sukses, PT Matahari Cahaya Dewata, Kreasi Mode Internasional, Puta Dino Kayangan, Animorfosa, CV Tori Sport, PT Kain Ratu Utama, Organic Center, Uni Kayo Rendang, Yammy Babeh, Kopi Gayoland, Pyo Jewelry, Saraswati Papers, and PT Genta Trikarya.

The IAF 2024 is proof of Indonesia’s commitment to continue building strategic and mutually beneficial cooperation with international partners. This forum will be a platform to strengthen trade and investment relations between Indonesia and Africa, while opening new opportunities for broader sectors to achieve sustainable economic growth.
