Badung, September 1, 2024 — President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo hosted a gala dinner for state leaders and delegates attending the 2nd Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF) at the Intercontinental Bali Resort of Badung Regency, Bali. The dinner, which took place on Sunday night (1/9/2024), was attended by a number of African countries’ heads of state/government and parliamentary speakers.

Wearing a green ulos woven shirt, President Jokowi arrived at the lobby of the Intercontinental Bali Resort at around 18.50 central Indonesian time.

The Indonesian Head of State welcomed each guest’s arrivals and then gave warm greetings before taking a group photo and entering the main banquet room.

The President first greeted the parliamentary speakers, including Zimbabwean Parliament Speaker Jacob F.N Mudenda, Kenyan Parliament Speaker Rt. Amason Kingi, Tunisian Parliament Speaker Imed Derbali, Eswatini Parliament Speaker Lindiwe Thulile Dlamini, Burundi Parliament Speaker Emmanuel Sinzohagera, Zanzibar Parliament Speaker Zubeir Almaulid, and Indonesian House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani.

Next, the President welcomed President of Liberia Joseph Nyuma Boakai, President of Zanzibar Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Rwanda Paul Kagame, Prime Minister of Timor Leste Xanana Gusmao and Vice President of Zimbabwe K.C.D. Mohadi.

"Welcome to Bali, Indonesia. And thank you for your presence here," the President greeted warmly.

On that occasion, Jokowi also emphasized Indonesia's commitment to continuing to support inclusive and sustainable global development.

"Indonesia is honored to host the High Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships and the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum to promote an inclusive and sustainable global development," said the President.

He mentioned that cooperation and solidarity between Indonesia and African countries are essential considering the well-established long-standing relationship that must be continued.

"Indonesia remains committed to strengthening cooperation and solidarity with countries in the African region, and this will proceed to the next administrations," said the President.

President Jokowi also introduced the President-elect of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who will be inaugurated next month as his successor. It reflects a smooth leadership transition and Indonesia's commitment to forge close relations with friendly African countries.

"On this joyful occasion, allow me to introduce the President-elect of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, who will be inaugurated next month and become Indonesia’s future leader," said the President.

This forums not only strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations between Indonesia and African countries but also serves as a showcase for Indonesia's cultural diversity. "Thank you, and please enjoy this dinner," said the Head of State.

During the banquet, the guests were treated to various performances of stunning traditional Indonesian music and dances. Several Indonesian famous singers such as Jemimah, Rini, Rahmania Astrini, Isyana Sarasvati, Assia Keva & Gamaliel, Rendy Pandugo, Elsa Japasal, Raisa, and Yuni Shara took turns entertaining the guests with their captivating performances. In addition to state guests, several Indonesian high-ranking  officials also attended the banquet, including Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, who is also the President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia for 2024--2029, Minister for Foreign AffairsRetno Marsudi, and several other ministers. The presence of the Indonesian cabinet ministers showed the Indonesian government’s full support for closer relations with African countries.
