Jakarta, 27 August 2024—The Indonesian government is finalizing preparations for the 2nd Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF) to be held in Bali from 1—3 September 2024. Health and safety protocol takes priority in these preparations, following President Joko Widodo's directives.
“Health protocol adherence must be well maintained. In addition, security is also a particular concern given the large number of heads of state and world leaders attending this forum,” said Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pahala Nugraha Mansury after attending a Limited Meeting on Tuesday (27 August 2024) at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
The forum is expected to be attended by around 855 participants from various countries . This forum will also be held in conjunction with the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP), a collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas). The total number of participants is estimated to reach 1,500 delegates from African countries and other Global South countries.
As of today, six heads of state have confirmed their attendance, and at the ministerial level, eleven ministers have expressed their willingness to be speakers at the forum.
“The heads of state who have confirmed their attendance are from Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Ghana, Liberia, Eswatini, and Zanzibar representing Tanzania,” revealed Pahala.
The IAF and MSP forums will involve heads of state and ministers, as well as the private sector and state-owned enterprises (SOEs). These forums will focus on topics such as energy, health, food security, and mining.
"For the private sector and state-owned enterprises (SOEs), it is estimated that agreements worth up to US$3.5 billion, or around Rp58 trillion, will be signed " explained Pahala.
The 2nd IAF is themed “The Bandung Spirit for Africa's Agenda 2063,” marking an essential moment for strengthening concrete relations between Indonesia and Africa.
According to the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, this close relationship is a strong foundation for both parties to realize the significant potential in joint development.
“Indonesia and Africa share similar development agendas. We possess vast natural resources and a demographic dividend, but how cooperation and this potential can be realized within a development agenda is key,” said Pahala. (Setkab/US/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/WW/PR).
