Jakarta, 22 August 2024 – The Global South Spirit is a unique key that distinguishes development cooperation between Indonesia and African countries from others. It promotes each country's right to develop themselves and join efforts in overcoming discriminatory and protectionist policies, including in the environmental policy narrative or green protectionism.

The Indonesian Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Pahala Mansury made the statement in a meeting with several media editors-in-chief in Jakarta on Thursday, 22 August.

"It will be one of the main agendas in the 2nd Indonesia-African Forum (IAF) scheduled to take place in Bali from 1 to 3 September 2024," he said.

He underscored the close relationship between Indonesia and African countries as part of the Global South in developing mutually beneficial development.

"Based on the 1955 Asian-African Conference, we will reinvigorate the relationship through the 2nd IAF theme: 'Bandung Spirit for Africa's Agenda 2063'," said Mr. Pahala.

He added that Indonesia, a developing country with abundant natural resources and a large population, is interested in strengthening collaboration with African countries to secure four priority sectors: food, energy, health, and minerals.

Furthermore, Mr. Pahala saw that African countries had a big potential for Indonesia to diversify export markets, commodity supply, and foreign investment. The cooperation aimed to open new opportunities to increase economic connectivity and strengthen diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Africa.

The 2nd IAF will be attended by heads of state and high officials from various African countries and officially opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

The event is expected to generate cooperation memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with a total value of US$3.5 billion, which will benefit Indonesia and African countries' economies.

Mr. Pahala also invited the media to play an active role through publication, coverage, and news about the 2nd IAF program on various media platforms.

"Media is crucial to make the message and the purpose of this forum well received by a wide audience,” said Mr. Pahala. (MOFA Infomed/Elvira Inda Sari)
